Comfortable and confident knitting back and forth? Sewing up your hats and garments? Kinda wishing you could knit things WITHOUT the sewing up though? Learn to knit in the round with Beth Terrell at Ethel & Em this spring!
Over 3 sessions in May and June we will be knitting The Staycation Pullover (marled) pattern by Tif Neilan. This chunky weight, long sleeved jumper with a cowl neck starts off knitting back and forth to allow you to stay safely in your comfort zone... to start with... and then we'll teach you how to work in the round, pick up stitches for sleeves and work german short rows for shaping. Absolutely NO SEWING involved (except to weave those pesky ends in).
Skills needed:
You need to know how to cast on, knit and purl, and we will be happy to help with advice on yarn and sizing. You can see a work in progress sample of the jumper in Ethel & Em. Basic knitting proficiency is essential.
Materials Needed:
Staycation Pullover Pattern (15% off code for participants given on sign up!)
6mm and 6.5mm interchangeable needle tips (included)
40cm, 60cm and 80cm circular knitting cables (included)
Wool for your size (15% off code for participants given on sign up! Or use your stash!)
Stitch markers for beginning of round, and sleeve decreases (Optional)
You will have access to email support between sessions and we will arrange a knit and coffee catch up for everyone to show off their jumpers, or get some extra help to finish after the course has ended.
Beth is an experienced knitter and burgeoning designer who loves teaching. She is a firm believer that there are no stupid questions and if you're struggling with something she just needs to find a different way to teach it to you. So please don't be afraid to give this a go. There are many benefits to knitting in the round including project portability and less weight on your needles at any given time.
This is a three session workshop. Classes will be held from 1-4pm on Saturday 10th and 17th May and 7th June. The idea is that some of you (if not all) will be able to complete your jumpers in this time. Classes are limited in size to six people.
Finally, you can keep up to date at our regular Knit, Knot & Natters each week, where you can grow your circle of fibre friends and continue on your crafty journey with likeminded people.
The Important Bits: Please note that once your place is booked - it is booked! If you need to cancel up to 14 days prior to the course date, we will refund 50% of your fee, after that there is no refund available. Places are transferrable though, and if either you are able to help us fill your place or if there is a wait-listed student available to take it we can refund 90% of your ticket price.
