Our Next Chapter In A Challenging Time

When the doors opened to Ethel & Em in February 2019, the original idea was to have a bricks and mortar shop with an online shop too. 2019 ended up being a hugely challenging year for a lot of reasons and we got to 2020, still, with no website in sight. Then Covid-19 happened.

The world as we know it is on pause, and our day-to-day is a far cry from what it was, and when we come out of this, who knows what we will be calling normal? What we have noticed though, is that the desire to knit, crochet, and generally create seems to be growing as we find ourselves confined to our homes and gardens.

We have been overwhelmed by the support from our local customers in this difficult time, and since we closed our doors to the public in late March, we have been taking your orders on social media, email and on the phone. It is great, but it has also made us realise that now was the time to get our products online to make it easier for everyone to shop. It's not to say that we won't still do a personal shopping sesh on a video call, or take enquiries on email or social media for those who are not 100% decided on their next project, but we have got an online shop now.

This was not how we envisioned launching our website, but here we are. The only fizz popping will be the tonic to top up Melanie's gin when this site goes live, but we will celebrate, when we get to the other side of this very challenging chapter of history that we are living through right now.

So keep on making - whether you are crocheting, knitting, spinning, weaving, painting, drawing, sewing - just keep creating and remain positive. Your mental well-being is as important as your physical health and this helps. Stay safe!

THANK YOUS...

First and foremost, all of our super lovely customers - we wouldn't be doing this if it wasn't for all of you! The Knit & Natter group, originally from Purely Wool who totally inspired the shop and without whose help this never would have happened - any of it. The Ethel & Em Knit, Knot, and Natter groups for all of the smiles and general cheerleading. Last, but not least, Annie, Wendy, Jennifer, Marcia, Andy, John, Zoë, Jen, Megan, Andrew, Ben and the rest of the Nublue team...

...and of course - to Ethel and Emily - if you were here - I reckon you ladies would be proud!
