Learn the fundamentals of colour work including slipped stitches, striping, and stranded colour work, a technique used in Fair Isle knitting and many Scandinavian and Baltic countries to introduce colour and patterns into your knits. At the end of workshop you will have a selection of swatches that illustrate these three common ways of introducing colour variations into your knitting.
A variety of Shetland 4-ply/fingering wool is included in the workshop price. Please bring along a set of 3.5mm or 3.75mm knitting needles.
This standalone workshop will be held upstairs at Ethel & Em, 24 New Street, Lancaster, on Sunday, 14th December 2025 from 12pm - 3.30pm.
This is an intermediate class and will cover the fundamentals of colour work knitting. You will be expected to know how to cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease and cast off to participate. Swatches will be worked flat, which is a bit tougher than working in the round, so that you are comfortable with the techniques when you embark on your first colour work project (we will give you some suggestions at the end of the session!).
This workshop will be led by Sandra Johnson, avid, knitter, crocheter, wood whittler, volunteer at Escape 2 Make and all-around craft enthusiast. Sandra’s aim is to give you the confidence to be more adventurous with colour in your knitting!
Please let us know ahead of time if you are a lefty - this may matter! Also, the session is up one flight of stairs - if this is an issue, let us know and we will work to find an accessible solution.
Your yarn is included in the price. A 10% discount is available for one week after the session on full-priced merchandise in store and on future workshops.

If you need to cancel up to 14 days prior to the course date, we will refund 50% of your fee, after that there is no refund available. Places are transferrable though, and if either you are able to help us fill your place or if there is a wait-listed student available to take it we can refund 90% of your ticket price.
