Design Your Own Colourwork Cowl
Have you ever wanted to design your own Fair Isle design or colourwork motifs rather than follow someone else’s chart? In this intermediate workshop series, you’ll learn how to create your own colourwork design from scratch.
Across the sessions, you’ll explore colour theory, colour dominance, charting, and the maths behind making a design work in knitting. You’ll develop your own motif or pattern and apply it to a colourwork cowl, gaining a deeper understanding of how colourwork is constructed and customised.
This class is ideal for knitters who enjoy colourwork and are ready to take the next step into design. You’ll leave with your own chart to work from and the skills to create future designs with confidence.

Class size: Maximum of 6 participants
A grid notebook, and coloured pencils are included. There will be 4-ply yarn available to choose from. If the colours or wool are not to your taste, you may have 20% of any yarn in the shop you choose to use for this project. Needles and stitch markers are required.
Please note: the workshop is held up one flight of stairs. If accessibility is a concern, let us know in advance and we will work to find a solution. Left-handed knitters should notify us ahead of time.
About the tutor
Sandra Johnson is a highly accomplished knitter and crocheter who loves colour, design, and problem-solving. She enjoys helping knitters understand not just how patterns work, but how to create their own.
Important bits
Once your place is booked, it is booked. Cancellations up to 14 days prior to the course date receive a 50% refund. After that, refunds are not available unless the place can be filled, in which case 90% of the ticket price may be refunded. Places are transferable.
A 10% discount is available on the day for in-store merchandise and future workshops.
